Our afternoon ADVENTURERS program is all about time and space; allowing children the opportunity to dive deeper into their curiosities, learn new skills, and take “play” to a different level as they grow older. We provide an encouraging space where youth can develop a sense of self & belonging, along with a supportive environment that encourages independence and empowers young adults with strategies and skills that build resilience and creative thinking.
This program takes place at our Hinesburg location in our outdoor classroom with 3 acres of woods to explore. Students attending Hinesburg Community School have access to school bus transportation to our site.

Not in session April 23We believe that learning opportunities should be stress-free, developmentally appropriate, and naturally unfold through the inquiry and curiosity of the children, as well as support skills that will continue on as the children grow. Our staff supports all aspects of the growing child and places an equal importance on the social, emotional, physical, and cognitive components of development.
We recognize that children need opportunities free from the pressures of school & screens. Woodland Adventurers is a space where students are allowed ownership over their environment and their time. Using a blend of student-directed interests & adult facilitation, students explore, share ideas and create world of their own in the woods.
We know that students learn most effectively when they engage in topics that interest them and retain this knowledge when they apply their skills in ways relevant to their life and community. Many of our projects are process-oriented and encourage problem solving, collaboration, perseverance and resourcefulness.
Our whole-body approach to learning considers the physical, cognitive, emotional and sensory needs of the child. We support independence and autonomy and see children as trustworthy, capable humans. As such, students learn and demonstrate safe tool use, fire starting, safety and maintenance skills (including cooking over the fire) and develop risk assessment skills by challenging their bodies in various ways. We support social emotional skills through intentional language and facilitate conflict resolution through democratic problem solving and the development of community agreement.
We use our natural surroundings, weather & changing seasons in combination with storybooks, journaling, nature connection & observation methods to help shape our days. Students develop engineering & design skills as well as their imagination & creativity through various build projects, crafts and games.
To balance individual needs while also supporting diverse peer connections enrollment is limited to 12 students. Each month, families can expect a short summary of our days along with info, tips and ideas on ways to support students at home. For those looking for additional enrichment opportunities, families have the option to enroll in CURIOSITY CONNECTION at a discounted rate.
Woodland Adventurers runs the entire academic year from September – June. In striving to build a connected community, we recommend students attend for the full year. We see the biggest growth with children who have consistent opportunities to connect with their peers, instructors and environment. We will consider mid-year enrollment if space is available.
